Apprenticeship Scheme
The St Cuthberts Care Apprenticeship Scheme is a work-based training programme for school leavers hoping to pursue a career in the care sector. When you join the scheme, you will gain practical experience of caring for vulnerable people, and the recognised qualifications needed to become an accredited carer.
Q: Who can be an Apprentice?
A: 16 to 19 year olds
The scheme is open to young people leaving school who are interested in gaining practical training of working in adult care; whilst learning the necessary technical and academic aspects of the profession.
Q: What sort of training does the scheme provide?
A: On the job training combined with study
St Cuthberts Care has a number of well established adult care projects in the North East, supporting people both in their own homes and in residential care homes. We also assist people in making the transition from residential care to independent living.
You will join a team of experienced and fully qualified staff who will teach you about every aspect of the caring profession, and advise you about the qualifications needed in order to progress in your career.
Your apprenticeship will follow a structured framework of training, assessment and support, giving you the necessary skills base for working in what is a very demanding field. During your time with us you will have the opportunity to experience working in a number of different settings. You will be encouraged to undertake all aspects of the work in which you are involved, but will be properly supervised at all times.
The ultimate aim is to guarantee you a career with us when you have obtained your qualification.
Q: Is there a recognised qualification at the end of the apprenticeship?
A: Yes, you will gain a Diploma
The apprenticeship is a recognised training scheme leading to appropriate qualifications such as a Diploma in Health and Social Care.
A successfully completed apprenticeship is the equivalent of five GCSEs. There is also an Advanced Apprenticeship which is equivalent to two A-levels.
Q How long will it take to obtain the qualification?
A One year
However, the scheme is individually tailored to your abilities, therefore the actual duration may vary depending upon your progress.
Q: Will I get paid while I am training?
A: Yes, you will receive a weekly wage
This is currently set at £96.20 per week.

During your apprenticeship you will receive all the advice and guidance you need to form a clear picture of the career prospects open to you. Subject to successful completion of your apprenticeship and satisfactory performance, we guarantee you an offer of employment within St Cuthberts Care. You will also have the opportunity subject to age restrictions and qualification, to work within our children’s services.
Q: When can I enrol?
A: Any time you are ready
There is no set starting date for apprenticeships. The scheme operates as a 'rolling programme' and you can join at any time.
