Independent Supported Living

We believe that adults with learning disabilities should choose where they wish to live and with whom. Our six independent living schemes situated in Newcastle, enable adults with learning disabilities to live as independent a life as possible.

By supporting people to live in their own tenancies we ensure that they can exercise choice and control over their lives. Using a person centred approach we encourage individuals to continuously improve and develop skills and confidence, enabling and encouraging them to make a positive contribution to their local communities.

St Cuthberts Care, Enabling People

The service provided is tailored to meet individual needs, is driven by the four key principles of rights, independence, choice and inclusion, and is outcome focused. The staff work closely with referring social workers and other professionals ensuring that a person centred approach is delivered in a sensitive and appropriate manner to enable the continuous development of each person.

We believe that everyone using the service should be able to:
  • Live the life they choose
  • Be a valued member of the community
  • Be treated with dignity and respect
  • Feel safe, secure and free from discrimination
  • Be healthy
  • Enjoy economic well-being

  • Acknowledge that in order to enhance personal development it is necessary to take risks; we will endeavor to do so in a supportive and informed manner within the guidelines of agreed risk assessments.
